Donaustraße 52, Berlin-Neukölln, CoMMo (the yellow door, ground floor, entrance accessible via two steps and therefore only partially accessible)
An event in two parts: a review of the aesthetic concept of the Queerokratia! conference and a playful brainstorming session on actions around the naming policies of Berlin’s registry offices.
17:00 – 18:30 Slide show and exchange on the politics of queer aesthetics
The alliance SBSG (self-determination made yourself) (@buendnis_selbstbestimmung) has designed its own aesthetics to criticize the federal government’s Self-Determination Law (SBGG). Visual design, spatial interventions, performative practices, voices and sound – what makes up the SBSG aesthetic? What ideas are behind it? What effect did this have on the Queerokratia! conference? Using a slide show, we want to think together with you about forms and strategies of queer aesthetics.
Due to limited space, we ask you to register for this part of the evening if you would like to participate: mail@queer-institut.de
19:00 – 21:00 Informal get-together, time for conversation
– also on discriminatory interpretations of the SBGG by the Neukölln registry office. “Name Game” is for us an inspiration to look for ideas for actions.
Background information:
From August 1, it will be possible to register changes to the gender entry. The Berlin registry offices have already provided information on the procedure and rules at an early stage. However, their interpretation of the naming rules, which has little to do with self-determination and much to do with state authority, has caused astonishment and attracted criticism. After all, only the person themselves can decide how many and which first names correspond to the chosen gender entry, and whether this is possibly not a “new” first name at all. We will oppose the idea of registrars consulting name lists and scouring the internet in order to give or withhold their consent. This has already been partially addressed by Antkek Engel filing a complaint with the district mayor of Neukölln, Martin Hikel, the supervisory authority for Berlin registry offices and the anti-discrimination office of the state of Berlin against the discriminatory interpretation of the SBGG by the Neukölln registry office.
