Writing queerly

Queer writing creates spaces for thinking about gender diversity and lgbtiaq* living realities. Queer writing becomes intersectional when queerness is embedded in the critique of binarity and of identity as demarcation and exclusion. Above all, however, queer writing means queering. And queering is a process that interrupts the violence inherent in normality. Queering is a process that promotes a desire for complexity and confusion. Queering is a process that addresses conflicts with the help of trans*versal justice. How can this be conveyed in writing – with reference to concrete questions and problems?

This writing workshop offers an introduction to the basic ideas of queer theory by taking up topics or questions posed by the participants and subjecting them to queering through writing. The participants’ topics/questions do not need to have anything to do with queerness or gender or sexual politics. Rather, the aim of this workshop is to research and/or playfully test the potential inherent in writing to slow down and shift thinking in oppositions, narrow constructs of belonging, attributions, exclusions, hierarchies and antagonisms.
